MERHA is a magazine about Ethiopian art, culture, community and wellness. This page explains what information we collect when you visit merha.co, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
When you read the site. You don't need an account to read MERHA. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which stories are read. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't track you across other websites. Like any website, our hosting providers keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) for security and to keep the site running.
When you subscribe to the Merha Letter. We collect the email address you give us, and your name if you provide it, together with the date you signed up. We use it only to send you the Merha Letter and to manage your subscription. Every letter includes a link to unsubscribe, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time (see Contact below).
Embedded videos and posts. Some stories include YouTube videos or Instagram posts. These don't load until you click to play or view them. Once you do, YouTube or Instagram may set their own cookies and collect information under their own privacy policies.
Staff accounts. MERHA's writers and editors have accounts on our editorial system. We store their name, email address and the work they publish or edit.
Who helps us run MERHA
We use a small number of trusted services to run the site:
- Amazon Web Services: hosting, database and image storage.
- Cloudflare: domain, security and visitor statistics.
- Twilio SendGrid: sending emails, such as the Merha Letter and account emails.
These services process information on our behalf and only for these purposes. We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- Subscriber details: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Server logs: a limited period, for security.
- Staff account details: for as long as the account is active.
Your choices
You can ask us to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or unsubscribe from the Merha Letter at any time. Email us and we'll respond as soon as we can.
Children
MERHA isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this page, we'll update the date at the top.
